The Design Museum established in 2005 is the result of the collaboration among the Anna Querci Design Foundation, the Degree Courses in Design of the University of Florence and the Municipality of Calenzano. It is the first museum in Italy to deal with Italian design. Today the permanent collection includes over one hundred and forty pieces, divided into decades, underlining the development and the structural, formal and technological connection of the fundamental themes of both design and Italian industrial production for over fifty years. The collection does not want to be just a collection of "beautiful" and significant pieces but intends to testify above all the creativity, evolution and strategic role that Italian design has always played in our society, also highlighting an ever-current “taste”, beyond temporary fashions. It is a typological excursus of the lifestyles that have followed one another with all the developments and changes due, in large part, to the increasingly advanced technologies and different social models of our Western world. In conclusion, an overview of the creative and technical characteristics that have made Italian industrial production famous all over the world. The Museum aims to be both a didactic and a meeting space for students and scholars and to underline this purpose in 2012, in the occasion of its new opening at Design Campus it has been called Design Museum Lab. The collection is in continuous development and growth thanks to the acquisitions of selected and significant pieces by the Foundation. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Museum's program of activities periodically proposes new initiatives such as reviews, temporary exhibitions, and events on Italian industrial design for a period ranging from 1960 to the present day. In the emergency period COVID19 the Museum has enhanced its communication through social media also offering online shows and exhibitions.
